Recommended Browsers:

In no particular order, we recommend the use of the following browsers:

  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Mozilla Firefox

Browser needed for Oracle:

Mozilla Firefox ESR. This can be installed through the Portal Manager.

How to sign in to your web browser to share data between your devices:

Your browsing data, like your bookmarks, history, passwords, and other settings, can be saved and synced to your account. That way, your data is available on any device where you sign into a web browser with that same account.  Any changes you make to your data on one device will sync to all other devices where you are signed in.

This is very useful if you get a new device; you can get back your bookmarks, history, passwords, and other settings by simply signing into the web browser again.

This is recommended, but not required. 

Google Chrome

We recommend using your personal Google Account and not an RIT account.

Google chrome now offers Profiles. Each profile is for each account that you have signed into Chrome. This can be disabled if you do not want the profile select prompt to launch every time you open chrome. 

To disable Profile Selection:

  1. Launch chrome. You want the shortcut with no profile associated with it:

2. Deselect the check box for "Show on startup"

To sign into a google account:

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. In the top right, click the button with your name or People iconImage Removed icon.
  3. Click Sign in to Chrome.
  4. Sign in with your Google Account.

Turn On Sync Settings:

  1. To customize your sync settings click your profile icon in the top right:

2. Then Select the Sync option that appears:

3. Enter your credentials and select "Yes, I'm in"

Sync is now running.

Microsoft Edge

Windows 10:

Signing into a Microsoft account on your PC will sync your settings between devices.

  1. Click the Windows Start button.
  2. Click the Settings button. (It looks like a gear.)
  3. Click Accounts.

  4. Click Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.
  5. Sign in with your Microsoft account.

Windows 11:

  1. Launch Edge
  2. Click the person icon in the top right. 
  3. Select "Sign in to Sync Data"
  4. Enter your credentials.
  5. Sync is running. 

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Launch Firefox.
  2. Click the three bars icon in the top right.
  3. Next to "Sign in to save and sync data" click Sign in. Continue even if you do not have an account. You will create one later.
  4. On the next page enter your email. 
    1. If you do not have an account it will prompt you for a password and age. 
    2. Click "Create Account" 
    3. Enter your verification code
    4. You will get a message that says "This Firefox is connected"
  5. Once signed in you will notice you first name initial appear in the top right.
  6. You are now syncing data. 

Browser Extensions:

We recommend using an ad-blocker add-on if needed. If you need help picking one or installing one please contact Saunders Technical Support and we will help you with this.

Disable YouTube Auto Play:

By default, YouTube will play another video automatically five seconds after you finish one.  This can be an annoyance if you show a clip in class and begin discussing it, only to be interrupted by a new video.

To disable, open any video, then:

  1. Click the gear icon at the bottom right of the video player
  2. Toggle the Auto Play button to off

If you are signed in to Chrome or YouTube, this setting will be saved to your account.

Changing the Default Search Engine:

This is only available for Firefox and edge. Chrome will use google search.

Mozilla Firefox:

Firefox defaults to Google for web search's.  To change the search engine:

  1. Select the three bars in the top right
  2. Select settings
  3. Select Search
  4. Under Default Search Engine select which browser you would like

Microsoft Edge:

  1. Select the three dots icon in the top right.
  2. Select Privacy, search and services.
  3. Scroll all the way down to the Services section and select Address bar and search.

4. Click the drop down menu and select the search engine you want.

5. Change the option for Search on new tabs uses search box or address bar from Search Box to Address Bar.

Clearing Your Browser Cache and Cookies:

Clearing your cache every once in a while can make your browser and computer run more efficiently. 

Google Chrome:

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More MoreImage Removed. The three dots in the top right.
  3. Click Privacy and Security.
  4. Under the Privacy and Security section, click Clear browsing data

5. At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time.

6. Make sure all check boxes are checked.

7. Click Clear data.

Microsoft Edge:

  1. Open Microsoft Edge, select Menu (3 dots icon on top right corner of the browser).
  2. Select privacy, search, and services from the menu on the right.
  3. Under Clear browsing data select Choose what to Clear

4. Under Time Range select All Time.

5. Check the check boxes for Browsing History, Download History, Cookies and other site data, and Cached images and file.

*You may also choose to check the boxes and clear stored passwords and Autofill settings. This is up to you.

6. Select Clear Now.

Mozilla Firefox:

  1. Click the three bars in the top right.
  2. Select settings.

  3. From the menu on the right, select Privacy and Security.
  4. Scroll down until you fine the section Cookies and Site Data.
  5. Click the button for Clear Data.

URL Copy and Paste for Edge:
