LANDesk Desktop Management
LANDesk is a product in use by Saunders Technical Support in order to provide remote assistance to our users and deploy software. While our users do not need to be concerned about most of the functionality of LANDesk, it does help to be informed about some of the things you may notice with the software installed onto your system.
Installing Optional Software
One feature of LANDesk is to provide a list of optional software that users can chose to install without having to contact Saunders Technical Support and without administrative rights. To review this list of optional software click on the Portal Manager in the Start Menu under All Programs \ LANDesk Management.
Click on the Launchpad option on the left-hand side and check the software package(s) you wish to install. Then click on Launch.
Be aware that some of the software listed does require you to be either on campus or connected to RIT via VPN in order for the installation to work.
We strongly recommend being on campus as the size of some of these packages may take hours to install from home.
Switching to Gateway Mode
If you require remote support, you may be directed to switch LANDesk into Gateway Mode. Here's how.
Start by double-clicking on the LANDesk Remote Control icon in the system tray near the clock:
This will open a new window. From here, you can use the Switch Mode button to switch from Direct Mode to Gateway Mode. Once you click the button, the window will disappear.
