New EMBA Student Orientation Requirements

Prior to arriving of orientation, you will need to have a few accounts and take a few steps.  This will help you through the orientation process if you have this all done before arriving on campus.  Of course, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Saunders Technical Support (contact info above) for assistance.  We are here to help.

  • RIT Computer Account
  • Apple ID
  • Amazon Account
  • Wireless Access on Personal Devices

RIT Computer Account

You can manage your account at https://start.rit.edu/.

Contact the ITS Service Desk at 585-475-5000 or https://help.rit.edu/ for assistance.

Apple ID

You will need an Apple ID to use your iPad.  We recommend using your own personal Apple ID so that it remains linked to you iPad at the completion of the program.  If you do not have one, you can sign up for one at https://appleid.apple.com/.

Amazon Account

You will need an Amazon account to retrieve your textbooks through Kindle.  We recommend using your own personal Amazon account so that you can retain access to the content at the completion of the program.  If you do not have one, you can sign up for one at http://www.amazon.com/ by clicking on Your Account and selecting No, I am a new customer.

Wireless Access on Personal Devices

RIT's wireless is a little bit difficult to access; however, there are major advantages to getting it set up.  For starters, once you have it set you will be able to access wireless at other universities, museums, libraries, and other non-profits that participate in eduroam for wireless.  This means if you set up your wireless for RIT, when you go to another organization that uses eduroam, you will connect automatically without the need to configure your device.

You do not need to be at RIT to set up the RIT wireless, so you can do this at home before coming to campus which is what we recommend.  Before you can connect, you need to already be connected to the internet via another wireless service, RIT's Guest wireless, or your mobile service.  See the instructions for your device below:

eServices

eServices is the tool you can use to review your tuition and pay your bill. To access eServices, go to https://eservices.rit.edu/. You will be prompted to login with your RIT username/password as well as MFA prompt.

If you have questions or require assistance in regards to your Financial Aid, please see https://www.rit.edu/admissions/aid/contact#counseling-team for contact information. Look for Saunders College of Business under the Counseling Team section to see our current contact for the EMBA program.

Parking

To find details about parking at RIT, please visit https://www.rit.edu/parking/.

You will need to register your vehicles that you plan to park on campus. If you may use multiple vehicles, be sure to register them all.

To register your vehicle, use the Parking Portal at https://myparking.rit.edu/.

Student Email

To access your RIT Student Email via the web, go to http://google.rit.edu/ and select RIT Gmail.

To access your RIT Student Email on a mobile device, setup a new account as a Google account.  When prompted for your email address, use your @g.rit.edu instead of @rit.edu for your email address.  You will then be redirected to an RIT login page to authenticate using your RIT username and password.

RIT Employees

If you are an RIT employee, please access your email the same way you do as an employee.

iPad Specific Instructions

Recommended Apps

The following is a list of recommended Apps that you download and install onto your iPad.

Books and Articles

Amazon Books

Prior to the start of each semester, you may receive an email with a link to Amazon to redeem a textbook.  The link will look similar to the following:

https://www.amazon.com/kindle/redeem/?t=XXXXXXXXXXX

When you click on the link, be sure to login to the Amazon account you want the book to be associated with.  We recommend using your personal Amazon account as the books do not expire.

Once redeemed, you cannot move the book to another account.

Harvard Business Publishing

Some of the articles you'll need to read will come from Harvard Business Publishing.  You will need to go to https://hbsp.harvard.edu/registration/student/ to create an account.  We recommend using your RIT email address when registering, but you may use any of your email addresses.

Your professors will provide you with a link that you can use to add the required reading material to your account.  Click on that link and login with the account you created.

WileyPlus

Some of your books will come through WileyPlus.  You will need to go to http://www.wileyplus.com/go/signup to create an account.  You must use your RIT email address when registering.

Once created and logged in, you will be able to click on Add Course.  Your professor will provide you with a Course Section ID number that you can use to redeem the materials.

Software

For information on getting access to services like Microsoft Office 365 or other software packages available to you as students, please visit https://apps.scb.rit.edu/labs/software/

Google Apps

All students have access to Google Apps using their RIT Computer Account.  Be sure to use your username@g.rit.edu for the login email.  See https://www.rit.edu/google/ for details.

RIT Employees

RIT Employees will need to opt in to use Google Apps. See https://help.rit.edu/sp?id=kb_article&sysparm_article=KB0034641 for instructions.

Microsoft Office

For access, go to https://portal.office.com/

See https://www.rit.edu/its/office-365 for instructions.

Video Demonstration:

Microsoft Visio

If you are looking for tools like Microsoft Visio, you can use Azure Dev Tools for Teaching to download Visio using your RIT account. The challenge is you need to install the same version as your Office installation. So if you have Office 2021 installed, you have to use Visio 2021.

An alternative to Microsoft Visio would be to use https://draw.io/, which is a free web based tool that has a lot of the same functionality as Visio.

Minitab

See https://www.rit.edu/its/minitab for instructions.

Mac users will need to use the web based version.  PC users can use either the web based version or download the full version.

If you are unable to login, you can use https://help.rit.edu/sp?id=sc_cat_item&sys_id=aed052068718a510cd6c20e9cebb3570 to request access.  Be aware that this takes a few days to go through, so request it early.

myCourses Calendar

To keep track of your assignment deadlines, try subscribing to your myCourses Calendar to your personal/work calendar. See https://help.rit.edu/sp?id=kb_article&sysparm_article=KB0043041 for instructions.

Password Managers

To help safeguard your passwords, we strongly recommend the use of a Password Manager. See Password Managers for our list of suggested tools.

Slack

Slack is a communication platform that is similar to texting, but with more features. Your account will have access to the EMBA Slack workspace along with your cohort's channel. Your team can also create your own private channel for communication as well.

Tableau

See https://www.tableau.com/academic/students for registering an account with Tableau.  Be sure to use your RIT email address, otherwise the request may be denied.  Be aware that this takes a few days to go through, so request it early.
