Decoding HORUS V2

Decoding HORUS V2

Horus V2 can be decoded multiple ways depending on what platform you are on. However the main principle of what is happening under the hood is similar for each.

  1. A radio, usually an RTLSDR, is demodulating the RF signal using the USB(Upper side band) modulation into audio.

  2. This audio is then piped to the HORUS demodulator

  3. The HORUS specific settings can then be adjusted in the HOURS demodulator

There are many different ways of preforming step 1 and 2. If you are using an SDR here are some recommended software:

Notes

OS

GQRX

A solid and relatively light weight option with AX.25 (APRS) decoding built in

MAC, LIN

SDR#

My personal favorite for signal hunting, if you are dealing with unknown signals and are just trying to get a feel for them i would use this one

WIN

SDRAngel

Has many decoders built in and all the bells and whistles

WIN, MAC, LIN

SDR++

A lighter weight options similar to SDR++

WIN, MAC, LIN

For Step 2 there are also many options:

Windows:

We will need to set up a virtual audio cable.

Linux:

We will use UDP audio to send the audio to
