Python Installation & Setup Guide

Python version: 3.5.10

VSCode (Recommended): https://code.visualstudio.com/download


Windows


MacOS/Linux

  • Python3 and pip may have already be installed, you can check this by opening up your terminal and typing in python3 --version and pip3 --version 
  • depending on your package manager your OS uses, do
    • MacOS: brew install python
    • Ubuntu: sudo apt-get install python
    • Fedora: sudo dnf install python

Writing your first Python program in VSCode

  • Extension (Left side) > Install the Python Extension

  • Create a new file called "hello-world.py" and add the following code. If a pop-up shows up about selecting an interpreter, there should be an option for Python3. If you get a message that Linter pylint is not installed, install that too.

  • Click the top-right green button to run. And now, you have successfully written your first Python code!
