Project Team Updates

IREC:

• Progress report

Space Race:

• Public Unsafety

  • Get going for that at the beginning of next semester (need to have it finalized over break)

  • Getting to the point where we are going to be CADing over break

  • Need to get everyone onto the Fusion team (I only had them in the project)

  • Running into motor concerns: worried about it arriving in time, but we have found multiples of the main one we are looking at (L990)

  • Payload-SOP

  • Structures-Motor selection and nose cone

  • Avionics-AV Bay/components

  • Recov MIA

  • Rocket name is Spencer (pronounced xpa7234@rit.edu)

  • Working on CAD, SOP, and picking out components and putting them on the BOM.

L1 Build:

• Success!!!

• Reorganized the inventory sheet and plan to redo inventory at the start of next semester

• Tentative build day 2 ideas:

  • March: the weekend before spring break

  • February: anytime really

• Work on things over break

  • CAD model

  • Instructions

Liquids:

• Made liquid prop timeline

• Met w/ EHS

  • Went REALLY WELL

  • Gave us permission to manufacture prototypes pending a material and tool plan approved by the shed (Jim and Mike)

  • Liked our timeline

  • Were ok with proof testing both on and off campus (off preferred, but on is allowed)

  • Are open to less big meetings and more casual email exchanges for permissions

  • BOM not bomb.

Solids:

• Flow Chart

• Sending SOP to Scott and eventually EHS

Avionics:

• Finished layout reviews this week

  • Power Mod ready to go

  • Sensor Mod doing some changes over break

  • Asked Donovan how JLC sponsorship was going

  • Need access to FB first for sponsorship form :v

• Onboarded 3 new SW people

  • Great timing

• Checking out avionics equipment for co-op

  • A lot of back pain

    • Avionics doesn’t really need Spring semester

    • Prop also doesn’t seem to need it based on their timeline

Project Team Updates

IREC:

• IREC CDRs went pretty well (good feedback)

  • adding feedback to action items and assigning them

  • Ordering parts (motor ASAP)

  • Need to hammer out POTATO

  • strain gague selection

  • Analysis on structural stuff

  • Payload needs reorg; make everything fit

  • Minimal design changes needed at this stage

  • Need reservations for AirBnB

Space Race:

• Public Unsafety:

Liquids:

• Met with Humphrey again

• Got method of characteristics working for our nozzle

• Improved simulation where it seems accurate

• Got a lot of professors to reach out to

• Reach out to imaging science for high speed and thermal cameras

• Potentially getting an ANSYS performance team license

• Meeting with EHS next week to go over new timeline and prototyping

Solids:

• New chemical flowchart

• Mixing amounts

Avionics:

• Layout review pushed back a week

  • Discussed plan for the upcoming months (people going on coop)

Vice President:

• Spoke with Wynter about future plans for stem outreach

  • Finalizing what we are doing after general today

• Sent message to alumni about fueling the future fundraising

Director of Operations:

• Helped run CDRs

• Sent slides to LAB and alumni for more feedback

  • Only got a response from billy so far

• Bug the following people:

  • Humpfrey about full set of test fixture draings

  • Humpfrey about getting strain gauge to play with

  • Carter & Wellin about CDR feedback

Treasurer:

• Merch was ordered

• downloaded massive zip files of media and will begin going through it and moving over to drive

Project Team Updates

IREC:

• Small change to CDR scheduling (avi on monday)

  • CAD/schematics underway

  • Blocked by structures (strain gague)

  • First wind went well

    • better surface finish than in past

    • Another test wind today

  • Jake/Will/Donovan determined M3400 won’t work

    • effective rail length on main OR incorrect (17ft orig; ~12ft actual)

    • Most higher impulse → longer burn time → slower V off rod :(

• Chloe and Louis have started attending Liquids meetings. Liquids Avionics REs

• Software people getting ramped up with ZephyrRTOS

• Electronics and Textiles lab in SHED is fully online

• Found Wegman’s sponsorship application, made an account for us on the LastPass and started the application

  • They specifically say they do not fund travel expenses, so I plan to lean heavily on the freshman learning aspect of our club

Public Relations:

• updated the sponsors page on the website

  • added new sponsorship packet to website

  • Reorganized the page a bit

• working on a post for november recap

• attempted facebook login again

Project Team Updates

• IREC

  • Payload: November 20th, 7:30 - 9:00 PM in INS 1140

  • Avionics: November 21st, 7:30 - 9:00 PM in INS 1180

  • Recovery: November 27th, 6:00 - 7:00 PM in INS 1140

  • Structures: November 27th, 7:00 - 8:30 PM in INS 1140

  • Working with avionics to determine av layouts, strain gauge selection, etc

  • CDR Schedule has been drafted, locations TBD

  • POTATO + Payload custom board schematics making great progress

  • Payload component layout + CAD is making great strides

  • Recovery is predominantly complete; getting CDR slides ready

  • Structures is going to begin winding today!

  • Had a discussion with RE’s + Gorb about test launch feasibility. Moral of the story is that it hinges on structures; if they can produce duplicate parts to facilitate a rebuild in the event of Cato before the test launch, then it is a go - otherwise, we should prioritize prep for SA Cup.

  • The rocket is named OMEN!!!!!!

  • Finished up the PDR slides and did a full run-through

  • PDR is today

  • Slides need to be cleaned up.

    • Will do a practice presentation on Thursday

  • Will be watching and supporting Public UnSafety today

  • Look for other motors to purchase. Get back to Louis as soon as possible.

  • Purchased motor tubes (finally!!)

    • Let’s not use 3d printed motor tubes before test-fitting them with a dud
