Adding Printers
All Saunders computers will automatically add printers when you are on campus and logging in. If you are off campus, you will need to add them manually.
Before trying to add a printer, please make sure you are on campus or connected to the RIT VPN Client.
To add a printer, click on your Start Menu and type in \\scb-sv-prt-3.main.ad.rit.edu and press enter.
For NTID faculty/staff, please use \\ntidps01p instead.
Find the printer you want to add (list below), right-click on it and select Connect. This will add the printer to your computer.
For NTID faculty/staff, the printer name for the 3rd floor is scb-pr-1 and for the Ross Hall printer it is prscb8.

Printing to LOW-A333 Copier
To print to the copier in 12-A333, start by selecting \\svcobslimer\a333copier from your list of printers.
Once selected, click on the Properties button.
Each printout requires you to enter your Copier Code. To do this, click on the Other tab and enter your Copier Code under the Department section of the print dialog. Without this, your job will show up in the Invalid print queue on the copier. Your print job is now ready to be sent to the copier.
If you are printing a confidential document and do not want someone to accidentally grab your printout, you can supply a password that will be needed to enter into the copier to retrieve it. To set this password, set the Print Job to Private Print. Then when you submit the job, you will be prompted to enter a password. The password you enter is what you will need to retrieve your job at the copier, so make sure it is something simple that you can remember. This password is for this print job only. Each time you create a private print job, you will need to create a password.
Your job will be under the Private job queue on the copier.
Don't forget to enter your Copier Code, otherwise your job will end up in the Invalid queue on the copier.
To retrieve your job at the copier, see the instructions in the copier room.
Printing to LOW-3340

The passcode is used for this printout only. Each time you print, you can set a new passcode.
To release your secure print at the machine, hit the Job Services button to the left of the touch screen.

Scan
...
to Email
Start by inserting your document into the document feeder.
Then tap the Scan to H Drive button.
The scanner will then read in your document and scan it. Wait for the preview to appear and then tap Next.
You will then be prompted for your username and password. The username works a bit different from what we are normally a custom too. You must find your user in the Global Address List (GAL).
Start by typing your first name as it appears in the GAL. You will see an auto-complete appear with your name. Once you have found it, make sure it is selected and press the Tab key on the keyboard.
Enter your RIT password and tap Next.
Tap Send to upload the file to H:\Projects and Miscellaneous\Miscellaneous\Scanners\Uploads. You will be the only person able to open the file once uploaded to the default folder.
If you are working on a project that requires additional people to access the files, you will either need to copy it to a new location on the H: Drive or you can request a special folder to be setup where all uploads are granted access to those users you specify. Just email Saunders Technical Support with the details.
Warning |
---|
Make sure you copy the any uploaded files to a new location on the H: drive rather than moving it. Moving the file will result in the permissions on the file moving with it. This means that you will be the only person that can view the file. It is recommended that you copy the file to its new location and delete the original. |
selecting E-mail from the touch screen.
Select New Recipient... to type in the address. You may also select Network Address Book... to search the RIT Global Address List.
Once you have the address in, set the settings you need and press the large, green Start button to the right of the touch screen.

Printing from non-Saunders Managed / Personal Equipment
Warning |
---|
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK We strongly recommend using web based printing (instructions above) for printing from a non-RIT computer. Using personal computers can result in your system being blocked by the security protection should your credentials be forgotten. This is a common occurrence with non-RIT computers and is why we strongly recommend not using these instructions. |
Adding Network Printer to Windows
If you would like to add a printer to your personal computer, you will need to first authenticate to the print server. Windows users can do this by clicking on their Start Menu and typing \\scb-sv-prt-3.main.ad.rit.edu and pressing enter. When prompted for your username and password, be sure to use your RIT Computer Account username and password. You must also place MAIN\ in front of your username.
ITS managed computers will still need to follow the same steps above. You should not be prompted for their password.
Once you see the list of printers, right-click on the one you want and select Connect.
Adding Network Printers to a Mac
- Select the Advanced Tab on the Printer Setup window.
- If there is no Advanced tab, you can add it by doing "Ctrl-Click" on the "Default" icon in the window.
- Select "Customize Toolbar." Another window will pop-up where you can drag the Advanced icon up onto the toolbar of the original Printer Setup window.
- Once you're in the Advanced tab, select "Windows via SpoolSS" as the type. Device type can remain as "Another Device."
- In the URL field, make sure it reads "smb://scb-sv-prt-3.main.ad.rit.edu/"PRINTERNAME"
- The PRINTERNAME field should be changed to the printers name on the server
ie. 2nd Floor - BW, Dean's Reception - BW
Warning IF THERE ARE SPACES IN THE PRINTER NAME, THEY MUST BE REPLACED WITH "%20" SINCE MACS CANNOT PROCESS SPACES.
- For the Driver Field, select "Search for Driver" and find the driver for the printer you are adding (Most Xerox Machines should have their driver built into OS X)
- If Drivers are not built in, the Xerox Driver package can be downloaded from Xerox.com. It contains all the drivers for all Xerox machines.
- Click the Add button.
- Configure any relevant options in the popup window
- Click the check-box with "Duplexer" next to it. This will allow two-sided printing.
- Click Continue.
- Print a test page. It will cause a dialog box to appear asking for a username and password.
- Have the user enter their RIT Account password preceded by the domain name(main\username) and password.
- Check the box to remember their password in their keychain.
- Make sure the test print job does go through and you should be all set.
