Overview

Spirion (formally Identity Finder) is an application that RIT uses to scan systems for personally identifiable information (PII). This software is mandatory based on Institute Standards. Please review the end user documentation provided by the Information Security Office (ISO) at http://www.rit.edu/security/content/identity-finder-and-pimi-quick-links.  This documentation also includes decision making guides on what to do when PII is found on your computer.

It is recommended that you review the documentation on the ISO's website at http://www.rit.edu/security/content/spirion-identity-finder-and-pimi-quick-links.  From there you can find the full instruction manuals on using Spirion to mitigate PII.

Scan Results

Once the scan has been completed, review each of the findings to determine if you need to shred or ignore the file.  Remember that you can only use ignore if the data is not actually PII.  If it is PII, you must remove it.
