Spirion (formally Identity Finder) is an application that RIT uses to scan systems for personally identifiable information (PII). This software is mandatory based on Institute Standards. Please review the end user documentation provided by the Information Security Office at http://www.rit.edu/security/content/identity-finder-and-pimi-quick-links. This documentation also includes decision making guides on what to do when PII is found on your computer.
Spirion will automatically run on Fridays, but you are more than welcome to run it manually.
Each month, a report is generated to determine if end user action is required. To ensure you do not show up on the report, make sure you run Spirion and allow it to complete. If the scan does not complete, you may show up on a report indicating it has not completed.
Additional information about RIT's Private Information Management Initiative (PIMI) can be found on the ISO Web site at http://www.rit.edu/security/content/pimi-overview.
