How to sign in to your web browser to share data between your devices

Your browsing data, like your bookmarks, history, passwords, and other settings, can be saved and synced to an account. That way, your data is available on any device where you sign into a web browser with that same account.  Any changes you make to your data on one device sync to all other devices where you are signed in.

This is very useful if you get a new device; you can get back your bookmarks, history, passwords, and other settings by simply signing into the web browser again.

Google Chrome

We recommend using your personal Google Account and not an RIT account.

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. In the top right, click the button with your name or People icon icon.
  3. Click Sign in to Chrome.
  4. Sign in with your Google Account.
  5. To customize your sync settings, click More More iconand thenSettingsand thenAdvanced sync settings. You can choose what information to share across other devices where you are signed in to Chrome.

    1. Enter your email address, password and age, then click Create account.
    2. When the confirmation email arrives, click on the verification link.
  2. Once your account has been verified, sign in to Firefox.
    1. Open Firefox and click the Open menu button at the top right.
    2. Click "Sign in to Firefox."

If you are signed in to Chrome or YouTube, this setting will be saved to your account.

URL Copy and Paste

Microsoft Edge

A new feature in Microsoft Edge is to copy and paste a URL (web link) using the page's title instead of the URL itself.  For more information on how this works and if you want to turn it off, please see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/improved-copy-and-paste-of-urls-in-microsoft-edge-d3bd3956-603a-0033-1fbc-9588a30645b4.
