"Trades" are a pro / con analysis process used to make decisions.

Trades do not need to be between multiple people. If you alone are picking between design options, documentation is still important!

Furthering this point, any discussion can be considered a trade. All discussions are relevant, as having the discussion on record is useful.

Background on the term "Trade":

  • "Trade" is an abbreviation for "trade-off" but is used for consistency
  • The use of trade-off could lead to inconsistent spelling: trade off, tradeoff, and trade-off
  • In order to keep documentation consistent for searches, trade is used as it cannot be confused


NOTE: A trade may be used to solve an Action Item / Issue. If this is the case, make sure to link, in the trade, the Action Items / Issues page.

NOTE: If information from another project was referenced to drive a trade, make sure to link the old documentation!
