How to block a specific sender

To block a specific sender address, click on Block Sender under the Junk button on the Message tab of an email.

How to block a specific character set

On the Home tab, click on Junk E-mail Options... under the Junk button.

Click on Block Encodings List... on the International tab.

Select the encoding lists you want to block and click OK.

 

How to never block RIT emails

These instructions will result in any email sent from @rit.edu, @g.rit.edu, or @saunders.rit.edu never being blocked. This includes any spam or phishing attempts where the sender address was using an RIT email address. You should still continue to use caution when reviewing these emails.

On the Home tab, click on Junk E-mail Options... under the Junk button.

Use the Add button to add the three RIT domains:

  • @g.rit.edu (sometimes used by students)
  • @rit.edu
  • @saunders.rit.edu

How to review your block senders list

Start by clicking on Junk E-mail Options... under the Junk button on the Home ribbon.

Click on the Blocked Senders tab.  From here you can review, edit, remove or add email addresses you wish to block.

Controlling the level of Spam detection

By default, Outlook does review all of your email for Spam.  In some cases, it can miss items and in other cases it can block too much.  You may want to select the level at which Outlook reviews the Spam.  To do so, start by clicking on Junk E-mail Options... under the Junk button on the Home ribbon.

On the Options tab, you can select how aggressive you want Outlook to be pertaining to Spam.  We recommend you use this in conjunction with the Safe Senders, Blocked Senders and International settings to help manage your Spam.  If you decide to use High for the level of detection, then you are going to want to add the RIT domains to your Safe Senders lists.  See above on how to do that.
