RIT VPN Client

Overview

The RIT VPN Client will allow you to connect to those services that are restricted to RIT only when off campus.  This document will explain how to use the VPN Client and how it is intended to work.

Connection to VPN

The RIT VPN Client, which is called Cisco AnyConnect Mobility Client, is already installed on all Saunders laptops.  Simply search your Start Menu for Cisco AnyConnect Mobility Client to start the client.  Once started, enter vpn.rit.edu and click Connect.

Login using your RIT username and password.

If you are using your own computer, please go to https://vpn.rit.edu/ to login via the web.  From there, you can download the client if you would like.

Disconnect from VPN

Once again, open Cisco AnyConnect Mobility Client and click Disconnect.

Home network issues on VPN

When you connect to RIT using VPN, this creates a secure tunnel from your computer to RIT.  This means that all of your devices like network printers, files servers, media players, etc. will not be accessible.  Think of it as if you are on the RIT campus using your computer when connected to VPN.

I can't login to my computer.  What do I do?

If you are unable to login to your computer because it has been away from campus too long or you had to change your password, it is possible to connect to VPN before you login to your computer so that the login can go through.  ITS has instructions available at https://www.rit.edu/its/services/network-communication/vpn under the section labeled Using Cisco AnyConnect Start Before Logon (SBL) on Windows Computers.
